AREAS OF FOCUS

Canada’s Nature Advantage implementation lead, agriculture and northern strategy support.

Conservation is the slow unfolding of a new relationship between people and land (to quote Aldo Leopold) and I want to help facilitate that relationship building.

Biography

Olaf joined Nature United in 2026 as the Federal Government Relations Advisor.

A double degree in Parks Management and Biology from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario set the stage for a career in parks and protected areas management. Olaf worked in Riding Mountain, Grasslands, and Elk Island National Parks as an operational Park Warden, supporting the reestablishment and monitoring of black-footed ferrets, pine marten and the management and monitoring of bison, elk, sage grouse, prairie dogs and rattlesnakes and much more besides. Improving the quality and reliability of satellite derived habitat maps was the focus of Olaf’s MSc studies at the University of Alberta where Olaf studied habitat selection by Wood Bison in the Northwest Territories. Olaf joined the Canadian Wildlife Service after completing his degree where he expanded his understanding of environmental assessment, private land conservation, and the important challenge of working with a diversity of landowners.

Moving to the Outaouais region of West Québec in 2010, Olaf took over the leadership of Environment Canada’s protected areas program, growing the network of National Wildlife Areas and Migratory Bird Sanctuaries and supported Canada’s efforts to protect and conserve 30% of Canada’s land and water by 2030.
